Burmese Days: Mandalay - Bhamo 7 Nights (Upstream)

At noon, get on the ship at Gawein Jetty. Lunch will be served after that.
In the afternoon, we proceed to visit Amarapura – a former capital of Burma where you can have a chance to visit the longest and oldest teak bridge in the world – U Bein. It was constructed in 1783 by the teak wood taken from the royal palace in Inwa. U Bein bridge has the length of 1.2 kilometers served as the main path for people crossing the Taungthaman lake. You can take a sampan ride on the lake enjoying the spectacular sunset and watching the locals walk by. It is such a peaceful scenery.
This evening will be spice up with a fascinating traditional dance performance on the sundeck.
We drop the anchor in Mandalay for a night.
This morning, we explore 2 notable highlights of Mandalay: Kuthodaw Pagoda and the world’s largest book as well as the only surviving building of the royal palace – the intricate teak monastery Shwenandaw. A visit to the gold leaf beating workshop will enclose this morning.
Mingun is our next destination in the afternoon. We will pay a visit to the gigantic unfinished stupa – Pahtodawgyi, the worlds’ second biggest bell – Mingun and Mya Thein Tan Pagoda.
After that, cruise back to Mandalay.
We spend this morning on board as we cruise towards the village of Kyauk Myaung.
In the afternoon, disembark the ship for a walking tour in Kyauk Myaung where you will have an opportunity to see the 50 - gallon pottery jars made by hand. These special kind of pots used to be very popular during the British administration and also maritime trade across Asia as they can contains a great amount of liquor like oil or fish sauce.
After that, we approach the 3rd Defile.
Continue to cruise this morning.
In the afternoon, we take a walking tour in Tagaung city which is located on the eastern bank of the river. Here, we will pay a visit to some typical stupas and a vegetable market.
Our destination today is the village of Tigyang. We take a walk through its small paths and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. Afterwards, we proceed to visit a beautiful pagoda and the reclining Buddha image on the hilltop with a spectacular view of the surroundings.
Back on board to keep sailing. Then, we moor overnight on the midstream.
Today, we visit the market of Katha where sells all kind of local produces. Then, we move to visit the former British club which was mentioned in the book - Burmese Days of George Orwell. This is a great chance for you to know how life used to be in the colonial time.
Jingpo village is our next stop. Here, you will have a chance to learn about the ethnic culture as well as the traditional way to create the Jingpo traditional rice wine.
Cruising for the rest of the day.
The island village of Kyun Daw is our next stop today morning. The notable site of this area is the 7,000 stupas standing around a monastery. Take time strolling around the village to interact with the locals and visit a local school before we come to a nunnery. The lifestyle of the nun is different from that of the monks as they have to collect the food and cook on their own.
If lucky, this afternoon sail south will give you a chance to spot the rare species of the Irrawaddy river – the round forehead dolphins. And when the day come to an end, we approach the splendid 2nd Defile – the most spectacular gorges of Irrawaddy river where offers scenic view of outstanding cliffs reaching down the channel.
Participate in our farewell dinner tonight as you disembark the ship on the next morning.
Enjoy your last breakfast onboard and then, join in a quick tour around Bhamo whether by tuk tuk or on foot. Afterwards, disembark the ship.

This morning, visit a tapestry and woodcarving workshop where to see how they make sophisticated products making the name of Mandalay. Next, visit Mahamuni pagoda – one of the most prestigious sites in Mandalay and the country in general. This place preserves an enormous gilded Buddha statue which is covered in the thick layer of gold leaves of about 15 centimeters.

RV Paukan 2015 Policy
1. River Conditions Warning
The Irrawaddy and Chindwin rivers are subject to seasonal rises and falls of water level. So that an alternative itinerary will be offered to Passenger in the case of water levels being too high or low.
Published itineraries are indication only and subject to sudden change. In such events alternative itineraries will be provided and we do our best to ensure that if a stop is missed we make up for it with another stop.
The ship’s manager and captain are jointly responsible for passengers’ comfort and safety.
Passengers must accept their decisions and instructions.
2. Deposit
To secure the booking a 30% deposit is required at the time of confirmation. The remaining balance will be made 70 days prior departure date.
If a booking is made less than 70 days, full fare payment must be made within 48 hours.
3. Cancellation Terms
The cancellation notice must be received in writing either by e-mail or fax. It will be effective on the date of receipt. Cancellation charges, per person, are based upon the date of cancellation:
- Up to 71 days prior to departure: Deposit will be forfeited.
- From 70-35 days: 50% of cruise fare
- From 34 days to “no show”: 100% of cruise fare
4. Children Policy
- Up to 2 years: Complimentary in the parent/guardian’s cabin.
- 3-12 Years: if the child stays in the cabin with one of the parents/guardians 50% of the twin-sharing rate. Upon request we can provide an Extra Bed at US$ 90 net per bed/ night.
5. Minimum Occupancy
For all departures should the occupancy be less than 10 passengers for Short Discovery Cruise and 12 passengers for Exploration and Discovery Cruises the Company reserves the right to cancel the cruise up to 60 days prior the departure date. A confirmation notice in writing will be released by the company to all booked clients and/or their agents within the deadline. In case of cancellation an alternative cruise will be offered and if not acceptable all down payments will be immediately refunded.
6. Insurance
We strongly advise travelers to purchase trip cancellation insurance. We also highly recommend guests to get international medical, baggage loss and delay insurance in the case of bad situations. Paukan Cruise will take no responsibility for lost or stolen personal belongings.
