How to Travel from Yangon to Bagan

Yangon and Bagan are two most found destinations by tourists because of their unique spots that hardly seen at anywhere in the world. Bagan is 611 km far from Yangon. Tourists first land in Yangon international airport, then you can get to Bagan in 3 typically ways
1. By Overnight Bus
Travelling by overnight bus from Yagon to Bagan can save your money. It is about 20 USD per one - way ticket, the price is different in each bus company you chosen. But don’t worry, it is only a bit more expensive than 20 USD or the price can be less than that. Distance between two destinations is rather far so it takes about 9 to 10 hours to reach another. All overnight buses normally leave around 6:00 p.m and arrive around 4:00 a.m in the next morning.
Bus companies you can book ticket for example like JJ Express, Shwe Mandalar, Lumbini, Mandalar Minn, etc. Booking ticket, you can book it online in buses companies pages or pay by cash.
Though time it takes to get there is pretty long but you can find travelling by overnight bus has its own benefits. You can save one night at the hotel, it’s the cheapest way to travel from Yangon to Bagan in the 3 means of transport. Plus, air conditioners are armed in buses, roads still in good conditions so it would be great if you are not having car sick.
Because there is no toilet on the bus so on the way moving, buses will stop at one or two stations for you to go toilet or buy food and drink. Remember to prepare yourself warm clothes because it does get chilly at night.
2. By Plane
Overnight bus is way too long, you want to make it much quicker, then have a short flight would be your option. Going by airplane only takes you around 1 hour 20 minutes to get to Bagan. The price is about 95 USD and can comes up to 160 USD depends on your booking time, the order of your seat or the airline you booked.
There are many airlines available for this route like Asian Wings Airways, Air Bagan, Mann Yatanarpon Airlines or Yangon Airway - highly recommended. You should book flight tickets with Myanmar airfares for the best prices, it always has flexible flying time so you just choose what suitable for you. And remember to arrange car transfer in advance from Nyaung Oo airport to your hotel.
Though it cost quiet money but think of its comfort, speed, safety, time it takes, it still worth with that price. One advice, you should book the flight early to get a nice seat and have enough time to pack your stuffs.

3. By Train
The final decision if 9 -10 hours uncomfortably sitting on bus and airplane option cost so expensive, that is travelling by train. 15 - 17 hours is the time you on train from Yangon to Bagan. In the afternoon it leaves and arrives in next day morning.
The price seems make sense, about 35 - 50 USD. Tickets are available for sleeper carriage and for normal seat. Train ticket are sold in 5 days so you can book in advance or in the same day you travel, but you should book early for sleeper carriage, or else they will be sold out. You have 2 options to book ticket: booking online via an agency or buy the ticket directly at Yangon Central Railway Station.
Any advices or notices? Well you should choose upper class sleeper carriage for your best comfort because Myanmar trains is rather old, slow and hot. Besides, there’s a private toilet for upper class with bed for 4 people and a sitting area available only for the train route from Yangon to Bagan. It is a long journey so buying some snacks or drink would be necessary before you get on the train or you can also by them on the train but with a bit higher price.
People say travel by train is a bumpy trip and the least preferred in the three options. Maybe you should experience it yourselves, who knows if the trip could turn enjoyable to you!
